BLACKWOOD United Football Club junior players continued with good results and fine performances in the Country Coastal Junior Soccer Association.

All junior teams played at home on Saturday in glorious weather conditions with the under 11s team starting the day off with a well-deserved hard-fought 1-1 draw against a very good Hay Park side.

The goal was scored by Reece Ralston.

The under 13s were next to kick off and were convincing 6-0 winners against Australind.

Goal scorers were Robyn Della-sale 2, Scott Mauger 2, Casey Clarke 1 and Jaspa Favero 1.

All players put in a good performance with a special mention to Owen Bandura.

An undermanned under 15s Blackwood team, who started the game with no substitutes, took on a fast and physical Australind side.

Blackwood coach Ray Anderson rearranged his team with all players playing unfamiliar roles.

This resulted in a poor performance and the home team were barely worthy of their half time single goal lead.

The second half saw Blackwood revert to their normal setup and, with the players settling back into their preferred roles, things improved and they soon led 2-0.

Two quick goals by Australind levelled the game and Blackwood’s problems continued when they were reduced to 10 players through injury.

Hard work, willpower and great determination saw the home team hold on for a 3-2 victory.

Goal scorers Isaac Woolhouse-Rutten (2) and Jacob Woolhouse-Rutten (1).

Once again there was a very big crowd in attendance at Balingup for the Rooball games and Blackwood’s under six, eight and nine teams did the club proud with their determination, fair play and sportsmanship.

The Pioneer Cup round was the order of the day on Sunday with all games for both the women’s and the men’s competitions being played at the Bunbury Soccerdrome.

The Blackwood women’s team were drawn against Harvey who are on top of the league in the Premier reserves competition.

Blackwood’s never-say-die attitude played a big part in that the team was 3-0 down at the half time break and came out and won the second half by scoring the only goal of the half, which meant the game finished in a very respectable 3-1 loss to Blackwood.

Kelly Bloxsome put in a sterling performance and was rewarded with Blackwood’s only goal of the game.

Blackwood’s men’s team, who have been playing some good football so far this season, were drawn against Eaton who are a team of young, up-and-coming players in the Bunbury region.

Soon after the kick off the 10 men of Blackwood found themselves under pressure as the young Eaton team quickly found their touch.

Eaton ran out 5-1 winners on the day but Blackwood ensured the game was kept competitive and made Eaton earn their passage into the next round of the cup. Blackwood’s only goal of the game came after Greg Hales rose high after a corner kick to powerfully head home from close range. Next weekend the Blackwood senior teams will travel away to Collie.
